I am a freelance editor located in Brisbane, Australia, and I provide a comprehensive editing and proofreading service for both the professional and amateur writer. The services I offer range from basic proofreading to advanced writing tasks. My clients include academic institutions, government departments, advertisers, PhD candidates, novelists, technical publishers and music publishers.

I adhere to the principle that English should be clear, well constructed and grammatical, paying strict attention to the proper use of punctuation. When editing text, I strive to eliminate unnecessary words, redundant phrases and poor syntax: in short, I believe in the use of plain English.

I have worked full time in the publishing industry since 1981, authoring and publishing a range of books for use in schools, particularly dance and music resources. I am a graduate of the Australian College of Journalism, with a Diploma in Creative Writing (Editing and Proofreading), and a member of the Society of Editors (Queensland). My interests also extend to writing and I am a member of the Queensland Writers Centre. I have an engineering (communications) background and advanced computer skills, both of which give me useful insights into technical language. I’m also a professional musician and can engrave (copyset) all kinds music – from lead sheets to full orchestral scores.

Editing can be done in Australian, British or American English, using Microsoft Word™, Adobe Acrobat™ or other compatible platforms. I have an advanced knowledge of Adobe InDesign™ and Illustrator™, and can provide extensive advice and assistance in layout, design and typography.

All work can be completed entirely by email if required.
